Week 14

1. What was the most important take-away for me from this week’s learning topic and activities?

From this week topic “The behavioral Safety Module in organizations” I learned that the unsafe acts could be the cause of workplace accidents. Employees are prone to accident and individual injuries and its organization responsibility to deploy a proactive strategy for a healthy and safe workplace.

2. What information from this week’s learning topic and activities would I most likely share with a colleague?

The most important thing I would share is “Don’t go to work when you are sick” 🙂

This reminded me of a colleague who had ‪eye infection conjunctivitis and she still was coming to work and I personally was afraid that she would infect me!!! (I think I wasn’t the only person having this thought but couldn’t tell her directly) Then thank God she understand that when another lady told her clearly you should stay home cause you can infect those who at your office and its not a matter of having pain or not its about infecting others.

3. What this course added to me?

In term of knowledge about HR, this course totally changed my perspective about HR. It enriches my knowledge and I learned that HR is not only about recruiting employee and checking their attendance only but much more than that.

In other side, I’m lucky to have you as my advisor and I’m glad that I will be taking other courses with you only 🙂 🙂 :). This make me put my feet in a cold water“ we use this expression when we want to say no need to worry and relax”. Among the three courses I’m taking this semester, THIS COURSE IS THE BEST in all ways and its unfair to compare it with others and really Dr. you teach this course with passion and interest and its obvious that you love what you are doing. I really enjoyed this course so much and working on all assignments and projects of this course was with pleasure and now hope I end it happily with the Cultural Artifact 🙂

Week 13:

1. What was the most important take-away for me from this week’s learning topic and activities?

I get clear information about business ethics and religion, family & friends, law and other sources influence that human ethics. Also, the ethic concept is related to utility, right and justice. Moreover, I get ideas about what makes people engage in unethical behavior so I can explain people behaviors specially that unethical situation at my workplace are so many and I can see all are taking advantage of their position.

2. What information from this week’s learning topic and activities would I most likely share with a colleague?

Actually, this part of sharing information with colleagues, I don’t plan for it but it come automatically when a related subject come up or any situation happen whether its with my colleagues or my boss. I already shared with a colleague the discussion board topic 🙂

3. What comments or suggestions do you have about this week’s learning topic and activities?

The discussion topic of this week was so useful and it allowed me to read different situation and experience and get the opinion on how to resolve the situation. Also, today I have heard a story from the personnel section that one employee was applied leave for days only from Sunday to Thursday then he extended his leave 5 more days from Sunday to Thursday and repeated the same thing for the third time.  Today, the personnel discovered that the system showing 3 duty resumption for the employee and they know that he was try to cheat them so he take only 15days leave from his balance without counting the weekend holiday which is not allowed.

I liked our director action, which was to issue an immediate warning letter for the staff and cancel all the leave he applied and create one leave record and joining all the days including the weekends. So, after his leave he will be welcomed with the warning letter.

I was sitting with the director when the personnel employee was telling the story and she started the story by saying: I have discovered something today when I was checking the PIS System and its blab bla bla !!!

Imagine dr. when I left the director office, another personnel employee told me I discovered that from the PIS not that lady and she is said she discover it and …….etc 🙂

I think there is always a story behind each office door 🙂

Week 12:

1. What was the most important take-away for me from this week’s learning topic and activities?

I like to be so open and write freely as long as no one form my organization reading my blogs lol 🙂 just kidding 😉 But apart from the information I get from all what we have learned, I have really noticed how people are different and how the same thing can be delivered in two totally different way. Also, I liked the concept of the cafeteria and uniform types of benefit programs.

2. What information from this week’s learning topic and activities would I most likely share with a colleague?

I would like to share the suggested types of employee awards, not only with my colleagues but also with my director. Specially that I have seen that many of them can be implemented and leave a great positive impact on employees.

For me I will do my best just to get a month of free parking 🙂 🙂 🙂 Can you believe that I go to work 1 hour earlier and guess what the reason is? Just to get a close parking lol 🙂

3. What comments or suggestions do you have about this week’s learning topic and activities?

I love the RSA Animate video and “ The surprising truth about what motivates us” was so great. The way things were explained were so true logic and interesting. Dr. I regret only one thing, you know what I just submitted my project for the OB course and it was about motivation and this would be a great reference for me 🙂 Anyway, now I wish I get a great mark on that project of 3000 words 🙂

Week 11:

The class was great like the rest of our classes of the HRM course, and what made it greater is that we all were waiting the announcement of the Expo 2020 winner. This make it one of the unforgettable class for all of us I guess 🙂

1. What was the most important take-away for me from this week’s learning topic and activities?

The topic of career was interesting and the most take a way was that I learn more about what career means and how to develop a career plan. Also, I liked the point of the sweet spot of the career which is the combination of three things: Ability, Efficiency & opportunity. This made me to think of my career and what I like on it and what make me stay there.

2. What information from this week’s learning topic and activities would I most likely share with a colleague?

I will share the sweet spot of the career with them. Also, I will show them the career path ladder so they know where they are standing currently.

Along with that, I will share the three distinct elements of the process of career management planning, which is: Discover, Plan & Act that was mentioned in the recommended reading of this week.

3. What comments or suggestions do you have about this week’s learning topic and activities?

It’s hard to suggest on something which is already great. However I liked my favourite part which is “The Motivation and Career Anchors Assessment “. My highest score were on Technical/Functional Competence and the result says that People with this anchor are seldom satisfied in a generalist position and it’s very true 🙂  My second highest score was the Entrepreneurial Creativity and it says that people with this anchor are those who have the desire for personal gain and recognition for what is accomplished and that they like creating a marketable and profitable product or service. For me I like to try my best when I’m not satisfied with something which can be done in a different way especially when it comes to something that will be noticeable by others. One of these little things is the email signature which I didn’t like and I created a different one for myself and many people are asking to create the same for them so soon my signature will be the default signature for all employees of the Department of Civil Aviation created by meee 🙂

Note: I’m writing this blog in the flight ,,, I’m coming back from Saudi Arabia so it will be posted at night 🙂

From somewhere in the sky ,,, See doctor, have you ever got a blog written on Air 😉

Posting from home 🙂

Week 10:

1. What was the most important take-away for me from this week’s learning topic and activities?

I liked the first point about the least accurate judge. It’s true, even if we are performing well and think that we are doing the job perfectly. Its only how we see ourselves whether our judgment is right or wrong the accident judgment is how others judge our performance. This reminded me of a saying: “Let your work speak for you not your words”

2. What information from this week’s learning topic and activities would I most likely share with a colleague?

The two things which I would like to share and I think will really improve our job is the Graphic Rating Scale and the Behavioral Observation Scale.  In my opinion it will be easier for the manager to evaluate the employee performance in more accurate way using these 2 scales. Also, in our current appraisal form all the evaluation criteria is so general and the manager should give a score out of 10 or 5. So, what most of them do is that they try to remember what was the total number of last year appraisal and they try to reach a number close to that or 1 number higher. Which I see is so unfair. So the scaling might help them to measure the performance easier than thinking of a number.

3. What comments or suggestions do you have about this week’s learning topic and activities?

I liked how the discussion board topic of this weak was different 🙂 Immm I like to see how people look at things and compare it to how I look at it or what I got from it. Its interesting for me to discover points that didn’t come to my mind or the different morale each student take out from the story. Apart from the course and grades, I like to read the writing style of each student and how he expresses his/her idea.

* Note: Story & Moral is one of the titles in the employee newsletter, which I used as a back up when I don’t have interesting topic to add in the newsletter. So, I have a ready back up now 😉

Week 9:

1. What was the most important take-away for me from this week’s learning topic and activities?

This week subject was mainly about Training & Development, which is my field at work. The most important topic for me was “The Training Preferences by Generation”. This will help me to decide how to deliver the training based on the employee age and how to attract them.

Also, I can now differentiate between Training & Development. I can say that Training is the knowledge and skills that employee need to use immediately while development is learning that will help both organization and employee in his career.

Another outcome is, understanding why adult learning is different from children learning and based on 70-20-10 rule, 70% of what we learn we gain from action and experience, 20% is the things we learn from another person and the 10% is picked up from a classroom experience.

2. What information from this week’s learning topic and activities would I most likely share with a colleague?

The thing that I will share is about the 3 rules of motivation, which explained that we are different and our motivation is different. So, What motivate me not necessarily motivate other and it might demotivate another person. As mentioned that motivation is a tool and if we used the hammer example, that its only a tool which can be user to build wonderful thing or to distract things.

Another important point, which I like to share, is about hiring people with 80% skills not 100% skills so the employee can develop and grow in his work and stay motivated.

3. What comments or suggestions do you have about this week’s learning topic and activities?

As usual, the quizzes are my favourite part, and since there is no right or wrong answer. The quiz result helped in understanding what motivate us most to go to work everyday. This helped me to know what are my 2 mandatory motivator and my value consisted of:

  1. Social: Which mean having passion to invest the self and time to help people
  2. Traditional: the passion to seek out the highest meaning in life.

This helped understand why I feel happy to help in assisting other to finish something at work and why I always find joy in helping colleagues do the job 🙂

Week 7:

1. What was the most important take-away for me from this week’s learning topic and activities?

The most important knowledge and information I got were about competency and its definition and that includes the employee skills, behaviours and abilities. Competency is what makes the candidate different and it is the job requirements apart from the qualification level the candidate hold.

2. What information from this week’s learning topic and activities would I most likely share with a colleague?

I don’t have to answer this at all, because you can easily guess what I would love to share 🙂

Still thinking ??? okkk Personality Test 🙂 🙂 🙂 My favourite thing, which I enjoy doing always (I was a fan of Tickle Website which is all IQ and Personality Tests it was the best web I could find for that & the result of my tests are still on my email)

So, I liked this part and dropping boxes was nice way to do it, I never tried a test like that :). Really, its always great to know your skills even if I know my thing still I enjoy reading the test result :). Here, I learned about the 5 strongest leadership characteristics.

Just to help you imagine how really I like personality tests, next Sunday on my OB course I will have a group workshop and my part will be !!!!

PERSONALITY TEST 🙂 10 question quick test to discover “Are You Visual, Auditory or Kinesthetic?”

3. What comments or suggestions do you have about this week’s learning topic and activities?

I liked the discussion board topic “The Unforgettable interview”. It gave me the time to go back and try to remember I was counting how many interviews I have attended? I have attended 2 interview before my current work interview and during the five year of working I had 4 interviews (This mean I tried to leave my current job for 4 times 🙂 lol ) By the way there is one interview that I didn’t count, because I went to the place and when it was few minutes and my turn will come I told them : “Sorry , but I just take the decision that I still cant leave my organization. Thanks for calling me 🙂 ”.

Ok … Coming back to the discussion topic, I really liked reading others interviews experience and how each explained it and described it and look at it. Specially, the candidate who waited for a long time in a room with a board and note written on it. I see how really our perspectives are different and how we look at things differently. I looked at it the interviews wanted to check the patience level where other thought it’s not nice or disrespectful. I found it a unique smart way to the reaction of the candidate and interesting.
